I really do not know but I find people who do win at them do so by playing the max on them as when I myself play myself I have a tend to play with no strategy and I play a little scare!!!
The only hypothetical way to overcome the edge of a slot machine is to calculate the size of the progressive jackpot needed to push the return rate past 100% then only play machines that have progressive jackpots that are higher than that number giveing you a positive winning expectation.
The big catch is, you only will see your edge if you actually hit the progressive jackpot, so you would need to play a lot of spins to see some results.
I dont know how to do this, its only a theory, perhaps there is some book that outlines methods of doing it
