Why won’t my Motorola Razr charge when I put a USB cord into the same slot as used with the standard charger?

I recently broke my charger and find that a USB cord is the same functionality as the charger piece, yet when I plug it in my computer will say it recognizes the razr, but it will not charge my phone.

You broke the inside of it. That’s happened to 4 phones I’ve owned. I guess I charged them too much. Go in and get it fixed or buy a new phone. Razrs are so outdated anyway.

Yeah, USB cords don’t charge cell phones like they do MP3 players.
I learned this the other day, as well.

had the same prob somthing to do with the number of pins in the charger i bought the car charger and that had a usb end that went into an adaptor then in my cigrete lighter and i tried that in my computer and it worked as a charger…

You need to install drivers, your computer needs to pump a bit more juice through the USB in order to charge it, and it won’t do it without the drivers. Drivers can be found at the link below:

Chargers have capacitors and resistors in them to give your phone a set amount of electron flow to the battery depending on the phone you have. USB cables are not made to provide energy to anything. They work more like a phone line, sending data from one place to another. You couldn’t charge something with a phone line either. Unfortunately, you will have to buy another charger specifically for your model of phone. If you plug things into it that supply too much energy, you will wind up burning out the circuits in your phone and it will be ruined. Also, when you buy the new charger, be careful with it because the tiny components in those chargers break easily.
