I was honorably discharged from the Air Force in late January 2007 and I deeply regret getting out. I served six years in Security Forces. My local recruiter said that they only have a certain number of slots open for reenlistment and they won’t have any until October 2007. There has to be a way to get back in. Can anyone help me? Thanks much.
Hey, Mark and Allie, I was at Barksdale AFB. Gotta love PL1!

You’re a reservist, aren’t you?

UNtil I read your full question I was going to suggest you check with a recruiter. Since you already did, you have your answer.

  • Ask me anything Says:

YES, JOIN THE ARMY INSTEAD! MUCH MUCH BETTER!

  • Coach Says:

Yes you can. You have to have an open AFSC to go back in. I was out from June 91 to Aug 98 before going back. They will take you, but you need a slot, or cross train to another career field.

Hey, it’s almost the end of July.
Enjoy the summer, but let the man know you want the first open spot.
make a royal pain of yourself, he;ll get the message.
Congratulations! I don’t know how to email a salute, but consider one sent to you.

  • Jim T Says:

Yes you can get back in. If you are really in a hurry to get back in, shop around for a recruiter who is or may be short of his/her quota for reenlistments.

wait till October and then go enlist

  • wolf Says:

    Just keep trying.
They would rather have you back than a new person.

If you have a Republican Senator or Representative, contact them. A letter from them would do it.
If you just have Democrat Senators & Representative, forget it. Democrats **** our military, and would just ***** you around.

  • Robert C Says:

Yes. Go above the recruiter, either commanding officer or supervisor, and explain your case.

    Hope this helps.

if your recruiter told you that, than what are we supposed to do??

I have a friend that did the same thing….. he ended up enlisting in the Navy, which according to him was the best thing he has done! He kept his paygrade, and you advance so much faster in the navy anyways!

  • Mark and Allie Says:

The Air Force always needs security forces so that doesn’t make any sense. Check AFcrossroads website and see if it has the answer there.

Your recruiter is telling the truth and there is no other choices unless you choose another branch. Then your chances are slightly better but not by much. Here’s the deal the military point of view is you were in, you had the opportunity to stay in, now you want them to fork out a bunch more money to get you back in. You are no longer their priority and that is why you are getting treated like the unwanted step child. Sorry the story isn’t any better for you.

  • D Says:

Here’s the deal…the AF is downsizing dramatically. So they have the luxury of only picking the exact people for the exact slots they need. Another words the AF can afford to be very picky about who they let in. The problem for you is that you are no longer considered a prime candidate. As a matter of fact, the AF is not taking PS (prior service). But if you do want to serve again you can enlist in the Army as an MP no strings attached. You may even get a bonus and if you were an E-5 you may do what’s called a grade determination waiver to keep your rank. So if military service is what you want…I can personally get you in!! If AF SF is what you want…I have to say that right now and for the forseeable future that is out of the question.
